✔️ About International SEL Day:

– March 11, 2022, is SEL Day and it’s an opportunity to collectively spread the message and impact of social emotional learning. Working together, we can increase awareness for SEL and share SEL best practices!

– Last year, #SELday raised awareness for 2M people in 500 schools, districts, and organizations across all 50 US states and 35 countries. This year, with your participation, we can reach more than 10M people and impact the lives of millions of children around the globe.

✔️ Why is SEL Important?

– Social and emotional skills are key human capabilities that allow individuals to manage their emotions, work with others, and achieve their goals. They are crucial for the wellbeing and success of every child and adult, and for the future of our societies and economies.

– In a complex, fast-moving world, it is imperative we equip learners for new challenges and opportunities. Evidence shows multiple long-term benefits from embedding SEL opportunities in education in both formal and non-formal contexts. SEL can contribute to more inclusive, dynamic, and productive schools, communities, and workplaces, and can in the long term save governments money and accelerate productivity.

✔️ SEL Skills Defined:

1. Self-Awareness – My recognition of who I am, what I need and how I feel relative to the world around me.

2. Self-Management – My ability to manage my emotions and behaviors, and to complete a task or succeed in a challenging situation.

3. Social Awareness – My demonstration of consideration for others and a desire to positively contribute to my community.

4. Relationship Skills – My ability to use positive communication and social skills to interact effectively with others.

5. Decision-Making – My approach to problem solving that involves learning from others, from past experiences and using my values to guide my action and accepting responsibility for my decisions.
